The Sunland effect when a niche sport meets world-class infrastructure

The Shanghai leg of the 2025 Sunland Cup China Pickleball Tour commenced in Waigaoqiao on July 4, drawing over 400 athletes, coaches, and referees to Sunland where professional passion and exceptional skills electrified the courts.

The tournament features elite competitors including Chen Zhikuan, current Asian men's doubles No.1, and Xu Yan, multi-time Chinese national champion, alongside rising stars from home and abroad.

Coinciding with the event, the Sunland Pickleball Park, Shanghai's largest dedicated pickleball facility, officially opened its doors. Strategically located at the intersection of Langu Road and Gaoxi Road, the park boasts 12 professionally lit courts with partitioned playing areas. Operated by the Commercial Operations Company under Waigaoqiao Group, the venue caters to enthusiasts of all ages, offering comprehensive facilities for competitive training, tournament hosting, and social pickleball activities.

This initiative represents another milestone in Waigaoqiao Group's strategy to integrate "sports, culture, commerce, tourism, and exhibitions" within the Sunland area. The district has successfully cultivated signature sporting events like the Sunland Cup Urban Dragon Boat Race and International Corporate Rowing Challenge, steadily elevating athletic programs toward branded, professional, and internationally recognized standards.
