
In January 2025, the number of cross-border e-commerce export parcels supervised by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port Customs surged to nearly 160,000. In contrast, the volume of such parcels in the second half of 2024 was only over 250,000.
According to Shanghai Customs, in July 2024, the cross-border e-commerce sea export channel at Shanghai Port was opened, expanding the logistics chain for e-commerce companies going global and further reducing shipping costs.
Taking Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port as an example, the business volume of nearly 160,000 export parcels in January showed an increase of more than 50 times compared to the first month of the pilot, indicating that more companies are starting to use sea channels for cross-border e-commerce.
This is a reflection of the recent comprehensive opening of cross-border e-commerce air, sea, and postal channels at Shanghai Port.
In May 2024, cross-border e-commerce exports via postal routes began operating at Shanghai Port. Leveraging China Post's logistics network, which reaches over 200 countries and regions, it provided a new "going global" option for small e-commerce businesses. By the end of January this year, Shanghai Postal Customs had supervised a total of 149,200 cross-border e-commerce postal export parcels.
In September 2024, the cross-border e-commerce export channel at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport officially opened, attracting several leading cross-border e-commerce companies. In January this year, the export volume of cross-border e-commerce at Hongqiao International Airport was 652.4 tons, an increase of more than 60 percent compared to the previous month.
