To protect the city's historical and cultural heritage, the New Town Development Company under Waigaoqiao Group funded the preservation and restoration of the Zhang’s Residence, which has recently been completed.
The Zhang’s Residence, dating back to the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and early Republic of China (1912-1949), is located within the Gaohang Historical and Cultural Park in the Pudong New Area. It consists of a group of single-story traditional wooden structures, characteristic of Jiangnan's traditional residential style, and was designated as a cultural heritage site in Pudong in 2017.
The restored Zhang’s Residence covers an area of 1,965 square meters, with a building area of 911 square meters. The project preserved and repaired seven original structures and reconstructed two on their original sites.
The restoration maintained the layout, structure, and appearance of the buildings, preserving as much of the original carvings and pavements as possible. Using original materials like wood, stone, tiles, and glass, the traditional Jiangnan residential style was revived.
Additionally, facilities such as restrooms were added to meet the needs of nearby residents, bringing new vitality to the historical context.
The restored Zhang’s Residence will be open to the public free of charge.
