To preserve the historical architecture and distinctive features of Gaoqiao Old Street while meeting modern living needs, Shanghai New Gaoqiao Development Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Waigaoqiao Group, has renovated and repaired East and West Streets of Gaoqiao Ancient Town.
Gaoqiao Ancient Town Old Street is located on both sides of Jijing Road N., adjacent to Gaoqiao Port. It is a typical water town area that naturally developed during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911).
Adhering to the principles of "preserving as much as possible, restoring the old as it was," the project focuses on the traditional water town culture of river-street symbiosis and the town's bridge-related name from the Ming and Qing periods.
It integrates modern minimalist elements while preserving the cultural and authentic characteristics of the old street. The aim is to create a historical and cultural area that combines commercial, cultural, leisure, tourism, and residential functions, revitalizing the old street and achieving sustainable development.
The project plan includes renovation, new installations, and repairs. The renovation covers Wanshou Square, the entrance of Yumin Middle School, surrounding facilities, and some shop facades. New installations include the opening of the garden corridor at the West Street entrance, and repairs to the East Street Leisure Plaza, Jijing Road Bridge, and Shengli Road Bridge.
