Rowing into the future: Sunland Cup Invitational brings companies together

The 2024 "Sunland Cup" Chinese and Foreign Enterprises Rowing Invitational kicked off at the Sunland International Rowing Center on October 18. A total of 40 teams, including 33 from well-known Chinese and international companies, as well as teams from Gaohang Town government agencies and communities, gathered to compete on Sunland Lake.

For Delphi Automotive, rowing has become an important part of the company’s team-building activities in recent years. General Manager Yin Deshuang believes that the spirit of perseverance and unity embodied in the sport reflects the company’s culture.

Previously, they had to organize activities at Dianshan Lake, but now they can host them right at their doorstep. "Our company has many young employees, and sports are very appealing to them. Besides rowing, other sports activities are increasingly available in Waigaoqiao, creating a rare and valuable atmosphere for businesses," he said.

Unlike conventional river courses for rowing, Sunland Lake features an irregular shoreline and a wide, windy surface, greatly enhancing the event's appeal.

After intense competition, Jinjiang International, Vero Trading, and Waigaoqiao Group emerged victorious, winning the mixed eight, mixed four, and men's four categories, respectively.

The Sunland area leverages its 196.5 hectares of green space and 65 hectares of water to expand popular activities focusing on water sports, ball games and holiday camping.

Following this rowing invitational, Waigaoqiao plans to host a series of sports events, including badminton and table tennis tournaments, as well as health runs.
