Shanghai's first large-scale industrial wastewater reuse project kicks off

Shanghai's first large-scale wastewater reuse project in industrial enterprises has officially launched.

Recently, Shanghai Chengtou Investment Group and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, signed a strategic cooperation and water reuse agreement to collaborate in the areas of wastewater utilization, hazardous waste disposal, general solid waste collection and solid waste utilization.

According to the agreement, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding will introduce reclaimed water to replace various water sources such as ballast water for ships, irrigation water for plant landscaping and cooling water for equipment testing. The reclaimed water will be sourced from the Zhuyuan Phase IV Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is adjacent to Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and under the jurisdiction of Shanghai Chngtou, and treated to meet the Grade A1 discharge standard.

The water reuse project is scheduled to commence construction in September and is expected to begin operations by the end of October. It is estimated to save between 600,000 to 700,000 tons of tap water annually, providing a feasible solution for the innovative application of water resource conservation technology in the shipping industry.
