New 5-year high for Waigaoqiao border inspection

According to the latest statistics in the first half of 2024, the Waigaoqiao Frontier Inspection Station inspected more than 12,000 vessels entering and leaving the port and over 256,000 travelers across the border.

This represents a growth of more than 3 percent compared to the previous year, accounting for 58 percent and 56 percent of Shanghai Port's total traffic, respectively, setting a new five-year high.

To fully serve the Shanghai port area, the Waigaoqiao Frontier Inspection Station has taken proactive measures to optimize processing procedures. It has implemented comprehensive online pre-reporting and pre-inspection for international voyages. Through online processing and appointment services, the station provides "zero-wait" arrival, "immediate loading and unloading" at dock and "zero-delay" departure clearance services for international vessels.

These measures significantly reduce the impact of tides on travel times and effectively enhance dock turnover efficiency, resulting in reduced transportation and operational costs for businesses.

"The facilitative measures by the frontier inspection authorities have greatly reduced the clearance time for vessels," said an employee surnamed Zhou from Shanghai SITC International Ship Agency. "We estimate that each vessel can save nearly two hours on average."

Zhou Weijiang, the director of the Frontier Inspection Division at Waigaoqiao Frontier Inspection Station, stated: "The Waigaoqiao Frontier Inspection Station will further reduce clearance times and improve efficiency through dynamic adjustments to duty plans and optimization of inspection processes."
