Eastern Airlines inaugurates cold chain logistics company in Waigaoqiao

To support the construction of the Shanghai International Shipping Center, Eastern Airlines Cold Chain Logistics (Shanghai) Co Ltd was inaugurated in the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone on May 28 and signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Sinotrans.

Eastern Airlines Cold Chain Logistics (Shanghai) Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China Eastern Airlines Logistics Co Ltd, has a registered capital of 300 million yuan (US$41.44 million). Once operational, the company will take full charge of the cold chain operations under Eastern Airlines Logistics, providing customers with services such as fresh supply chain services, temperature-controlled supply chain services for pharmaceuticals and high-end manufacturing, port services and digital platform operations.

In 2023, the output value of the biopharmaceutical industry in the bonded area reached 306 billion yuan, growing by 7.3 percent over the previous year and accounting for nearly one-third of Shanghai's total, thus becoming a vital support for Shanghai in building a world-class biopharmaceutical industry cluster with international influence.

To address industry pain points such as temperature loss, information disconnection and monitoring disconnection in the transportation of temperature-controlled goods like biopharmaceuticals, Eastern Airlines Cold Chain Logistics will leverage the bonded area's advantages in the biopharmaceutical industry to build a leading comprehensive logistics service platform, from import to end-users, ensuring the safety and stability of related pharmaceutical products while achieving global delivery of biopharmaceutical products within three days.

Additionally, the cold chain logistics company has initiated a collaboration with Freshippo on the 2024 North American cherry project. This initiative will further reduce the transportation and circulation links, saving time and costs, thereby allowing domestic consumers to enjoy high-quality cherries within 24 hours.
