Shanghai's bonded policy attracts global brands

At the recent China International Consumer Products Expo held in Haikou of Hainan Province, the Shanghai exhibition area saw many foreign brands, featuring not only exquisite jewelry and watches but also purchasable coffee beans and beverages.

Behind this diverse and international array of exhibits lies the strength of Shanghai's bonded policy.

The sales director of the high-end jewelry brand Winza, who is attending the consumer products expo for the second time this year, attributed his participation to the trade service platform of the Waigaoqiao Group.

Cooperating with import brands is a strong suit of Waigaoqiao, and for items like jewelry, which have high prices and involve higher customs duties, selling them would pose a significant inventory pressure if they had to be imported first and then sold. However, through the bonded policy of the Waigaoqiao Bonded Zone, jewelry can be traded before tax payment, greatly reducing the operational risks for importers.

After years of development, the Waigaoqiao area has formed several specialized trade service platforms, including those for culture, wine, cosmetics, watches, intelligent manufacturing, medical equipment, automobiles and machinery.

In addition to bringing jewelry boutiques with Winza, this time they have also brought in watch boutiques from the German brand Hermle, which are considered collectible grade.
