Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng recently presented certificates for regional headquarters of multinational companies to eight enterprises in the bonded area and witnessed the signing of contracts by five enterprises.
The eight companies include Keyence (China) Co Ltd and K.D.F. Distribution (Shanghai) Co Ltd, while the 5 companies include Umicore Technology Development (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.
On February 27, the ceremony for awarding certificates to the 38th batch of regional headquarters and research and development centers of multinational companies was held. Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng awarded certificates to 34 newly recognized regional headquarters of multinational companies, 17 foreign-funded research and development centers, and the first batch of 10 global partners promoting foreign investment, and witnessed the signing of contracts for 63 new foreign-funded projects and expansions.
In 2023, the bonded area added 11 new regional headquarters of multinational companies, bringing the total to 141, accounting for 14.8 percent of the city's total and 31.5 percent of the Pudong New Area.
The bonded area achieved a total import and export volume of 1.16 trillion yuan (US$161.11 billion) in 2023, a 5.9 percent increase over the previous year, with its share of Shanghai's total import and export volume rising from 26.2 percent in the previous year to 27.6 percent.
