China’s first international consolidation business was piloted at Waigaoqiao Port under the supervision of the customs of the port affiliated to Shanghai Customs, which is significant for promoting business in Shanghai.
The container full of imported goods was from Malaysia, which was opened and goods inside were assembled with other exported goods shipped to the same destination.
International consolidation business means the re-assembly of imported goods from overseas and exported goods from domestic market. It is an important index to evaluate the development level of an international hub port.
“Compared with bypassing the transit port in the past, the consolidation of goods at Shanghai Port can cut down both time and costs for foreign trade enterprises and logistics in Shanghai and even in the whole Yangtze River Delta region,” according to SIPGL Consolidation Service (Shanghai) Co Ltd.
