China’s first global semiconductor smart distribution center opens

China’s first global semiconductor smart distribution center opened on November 14 in the Waigaoqiao Bonded Area, which will enhance the Pudong New Area’s distribution capability of global resources.

The smart distribution center, built by Kintetsu Worldwide Express, Japan’s second largest logistics company, works all day long, enabling automatic scanning of order numbers, grasping, and dispatching.

It is the firm’s largest, busiest and most automated semiconductor distribution center in the world.

“I hope this distribution center will inject more vitality into the global logistics network of Kintetsu Worldwide Express and upgrade its capability of allocating global resources. Meanwhile, it will promote the development of the Pudong Airport Comprehensive Bonded Area, turning it into a model of modern logistics, smart logistics and cross-border logistics,” said Yu Yong, general manager of Waigaoqiao Group.

“Led by this smart center, more distribution centers will hopefully open in Pudong,” Yu added.

Of note, this project is part of Pudong’s plan to increase its global resources allocation capability. The plan is called GOP, Global Operator Plan, which aims to help businesses enhance their global resources allocation ability and in the end promote Pudong’s capability.

Companies selected by GOP can enjoy many supportive services such as 7/24 customs clearance.

It is estimated that exports of Kintetsu’s distribution center will reach 40 billion yuan (US$6.28 billion) from 20 billion yuan with the help of around-the-clock customs clearance and smart operation.
