Premier Li visits Waigaoqiao FTZ, urges further opening up

Premier Li Keqiang visited Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone on November 22-23, encouraging the area to further open up, improve its business environment and motivate the vitality of market players.

Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang and Mayor Gong Zheng accompanied Li during the visit.

In the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone, Li praised the innovative policies made in the investment, trade and finance sectors, which, he said, was a good model for the country.

At Waigaoqiao International Smart Manufacturing Service Industry Park, he spoke with heads of some foreign-invested companies and learned about the research of high-end smart equipment.

The premier said that “China will be more and more open to the outside world and will strictly protect intellectual property.”

Meanwhile, Li emphasized, “Chinese enterprises should seize the opportunities brought by the more convenient and free trade and investment after the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership takes effect on January 1, 2022.”

At the Third Power Plant of Waigaoqiao, he said, “Electricity is the driving force of the economy and the priority for a power plant is to ensure power supply for the people and enterprises.”
