Waigaoqiao station planned for Nantong-Shanghai Railway

The second phase of the China Nantong-Shanghai Railway is about to kick off, with Waigaoqaio Railway Station planned, according to China Railway Shanghai.

The first phase of the railway began operation on July 1, 2020. The railway has reduced train travel time between Nantong and Shanghai to just over an hour.

Meanwhile, the railway has set three stations in Pudong New Area of Shanghai, which directly connects Pudong with other cities. In the past, railway stations were all in Puxi, west of the Huangpu River, and to get to Pudong, people and goods had to transfer via a subway.

Waigaoqiao Railway Station is also linked to the Shanghai Pudong International Airport by the Airport Line and Metro Line 21. The Nantong-Shanghai Railway is the first railway connecting to Pudong Airport.

The Nantong-Shanghai Railway has played an important role in improving China’s seaside railway system and promoting the integrated development of sea shipping and railway shipping. It has also filled the gap for Pudong that had no railways in the past.
