National copyright innovation base opens in Pudong

The National Copyright Innovation and Development Base was recently inaugurated in the Pudong New Area. The base will launch copyright registration services in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone and relax the restrictions on registration places.
Cultural and creative industries have become pillar industries of Pudong. Last year, the annual revenue of Pudong’s cultural and creative industries reached 335.11 billion yuan (US$51.34 billion). More than 500 cultural and creative enterprises in the district have an operation scale of over 100 million yuan each.
The added value of cultural and creative industries was 109.78 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth rate of 12.3 percent, accounting for 8.7 percent of the whole district.
Last September, the China (Shanghai) Free Trade Zone Copyright Service Center started operation. With the support of the Municipal Copyright Bureau, the center has provided copyright consultation services to more than 1,000 market players and rights holders and has registered copyright works for more than 100 Pudong enterprises.
The new base, in addition to further improving the basic services of copyright registration, will also strive to improve the industry chain, explore various aspects such as copyright monitoring, copyright trading services, and applications promotion, strengthen copyright creation and protection, innovate copyright work mechanisms and systems, and promote the high-quality development of the copyright industry.
