Expo Site evolves into world-class urban center

The Expo Site, the venue of the world's biggest fair held in 2010, will transform into a bustling business and lifestyle center after it was incorporated into Shanghai Free Trade Zone last year.

The site will have a modern service industry park, a cultural industry park, and a water sports park, officials said. In February, the Shanghai Expo Park, also on the site, held a Spring Festival lantern show that attracted big crowds to the area.

China Art Palace, formerly the China Pavilion during Expo Shanghai 2010, is the centerpiece of the Expo Site and an ideal place for exhibitions.

The River Mall, previously called Expo Axis, is Shanghai's longest shopping arcade. People can ride a miniature train in its overhead garden or watch films projected on the outdoor screen or watch a music fountain.

Qiantan, a large tract of land in the Expo Site will become a high-end residential complex with a lot of green space and modern facilities by 2018.

The core area of the Expo Site has been developed into a cluster of 28 buildings for the headquarters of 15 large state-owned corporations such as COMAC, Baosteel and State Grid. They are connected by an underground space of about 450,000 square meters.
