Shanghai First Food Store reported robust sales during the Spring Festival holiday and the free trade zone in Pudong offered holiday shoppers a big market of imported food products.
Suning Commerce Group signed an agreement with Yangshan Port Free Trade Area in January to import 5,000 kinds of food products from 33 countries and sell them on Suning.com at prices 20 percent cheaper compared with supermarkets.
Some American companies have opened stores in the online mall called yhd.com, which is majority-owned by Wal-Mart, to sell seafood, fruits and 500 kinds of food products. Their sales grew during the holiday.
International retail giants Walmart and Carrefour reported a 30 percent increase in sales of roasted goods, glutinous rice dumplings and fruits in a three-day promotion before the holiday.
