The Waigaoqiao Health Innovation Industry Community, positioned as a core cluster for life sciences, has been launched.
The new industrial hub spans a total floor area of approximately 130,000 square meters, with standard floor plates ranging from 2,700 to 4,700 square meters.
Focusing on biomedicine and medical devices, the community offers integrated spaces for innovation R&D, multi-purpose offices, specialized logistics, and comprehensive support facilities. It is designed to meet full-cycle development needs from research and validation to business expansion.
Leveraging five key advantages—industrial ecosystem synergy, full-cycle spatial support, clinical translation platforms, cross-border professional services, and stacked industrial policies—the community aims to build an efficient value conversion system to accelerate growth for biopharma companies and facilitate the commercialization of innovative outcomes.
Biomedicine is one of the Pudong New Area’s three priority pilot industries, and the Waigaoqiao Health Innovation Industry Community marks a major upgrade to the region’s industrial ecosystem.
In the first quarter of this year, a clinical translation platform, jointly established by the China Pharmaceutical University, Waigaoqiao Group, and Gobroad Healthcare Group, was launched in Waigaoqiao.
The platform introduces an innovative “university + local SOE + clinical research & translation operator” collaboration model, integrating core strengths in scientific research, clinical practice, and industrial infrastructure. It focuses on major disease areas to drive research, align R&D directions with clinical needs, and accelerate the development, validation, and industrialization of innovative drugs and devices, enhancing China’s capabilities in diagnosing and treating major diseases.
To support the R&D and translation of innovative drugs and devices, the Waigaoqiao Health Innovation Industry Community will establish a comprehensive public technology service and clinical translation support system, including CDMO and other specialized service facilities. Companies can collaborate with the Gobroad Cancer Hospital within the zone to access clinical guidance at early R&D stages, improving project design, validation efficiency, and laying a critical foundation for subsequent development.
