By the end of this year, Shanghai East Railway Station, a key part of the Eastern Hub, will be basically completed and enter integrated testing and commissioning. The station is scheduled to open for operation in July 2027, according to local authorities.
As one of the city's four major railway stations and a landmark project for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, Shanghai East Railway Station is located adjacent to Pudong International Airport. It will be interconnected with Hongqiao Railway Station, Hongqiao Airport, and Pudong Airport via the Airport Link Line.
The entire project has a total floor area of approximately 1.33 million square meters, including about 160,000 square meters for the high-speed rail station building. The station will feature 15 platforms and 30 tracks, creating a large-scale comprehensive transport hub integrating national railways, suburban lines, urban rail transit, and airport shuttles.
In the future, the station will be connected to the Shanghai–Nantong Railway, the new Shanghai–Hangzhou high-speed railway, as well as the northern and southern coastal railways. It will serve as a key corridor for north-south passenger traffic across the country, significantly boosting Shanghai's high-speed rail capacity and driving development in surrounding Yangtze River Delta cities such as Pinghu, Jiaxing, and Nantong.
Construction is progressing steadily. Among the 46 supporting projects, a new 110-kilovolt substation and the earthworks for Metro Line 21's Shanghai East Railway Station have been completed. Meanwhile, construction has started on office, commercial, hotel, and cultural facilities in the station's square area, which will serve as a major space for station-city integration and a new gateway welcoming global visitors.
