Zeiss inks MoU to upgrade its HQ in Waigaoqiao

German optical system manufacturer Carl Zeiss AG signed a memorandum of understanding with New Development on January 11 to upgrade its headquarters in Waigaoqiao.

Aside from the management function, the headquarters will also provide investment after the upgrading.

“The upgraded headquarters will further focus on investment in the medical and high-tech industries in China and contribute to the global strategic layout of Zeiss,” said Christian Martin, chief finance officer of Zeiss China.

“The upgraded headquarters betokens a good year for Zeiss. We are confident of our development in Shanghai and will continue expand investment in the city,” said Christian Mueller, CFO of Zeiss AG.

With China playing an increasingly important role in the development of Zeiss, the company has been constantly upgrading its branch in China. In 2020, China became the largest market for Zeiss, surpassing the United States and Germany.

Besides manufacturing, Zeiss China is also involved in research and development, digital innovation and sharing service.
